PBS documentary on Skopes Monkey Trial

Tennessee biology teacher John Scopes was arrested in 1925 for teaching evolution in defiance of state law. His trial became an epic free speech debate that spiraled into an all-out duel between science and religion, with two of the century's greatest orators, Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan, as competing attorneys. MONKEY TRIAL explores the social fault line between scientific discoveries and the literal truth of the Bible.

DNA Model Kit

I haven't tried this kit, but it looks pretty straightforward and easy to build...with styrofoam balls as phospate groups and sugars.

Peter Sis

treeOfLife.JPG Peter Sis's illustrations are in a class of their own--combining traditional etching with and modern techniques. His illustrated biographies of Charles Darwin and Gallileo Galiliei are detailed and mesmerizing. He captures the brilliance of these two great thinkers, and adds his own. These two books are essentials for any library, for either children or grown. I bought them for myself, but my kids love them.
