Born To Run

Just came across this interesting article:
Biomechanical research reveals a surprising key to the survival of our species: Humans are built to outrun nearly every other animal on the planet over long distances

I wouldn't want to try this out against a hungry cheetah tho :)

There were a couple of guys who researched this theory a while back, thinking that between the two of them, they could run down a gazelle or something - just keep chasing it til it was exhausted and collapsed. They had a lot of similar theories and added in that if humans hunted in packs they could keep a single animal going until they just ran it to death. Two problems arose. 1. The gazelle (or whatever it was) just sprinted to the next hill and relaxed while they ran towards it, then sprinted to the next hill and relaxed. Meanwhile, they were running constantly. 2. It was pretty impossible to isolate a single animal. They kept running into the herd and getting mixed up with the others.
